pumpkin cake a la nut
this is pretty sad. i spent the whole day today packing my junk away to haul it to the storage facility i rented. in the midst of it all i realized that i had a lot of flour left and decided to bake a cake. unfortunately, i didn't have any milk. in order to make it a bit moist, i decided to use a can of smash pumpkin that i had from ages ago and which never materialized into a pumpkin pie. i had a bit of soy milk left and i figured that between that and the moisture from the pumpkin it would be good. i preheated the oven. i got the butter semi-melted; mixed the sugar and flour; added the rest of the stuff; and decided to spice things up with a bit of ground cinnamon and nutmeg. now, mind you, i am a nutmeg freak. i love nutmeg in my hot drinks (coffee, chai, hot chocolate, ponche, eggnog, etc.). thus, when it came to the ground nutmeg part i took the bottle and proceeded to put lots of it in my soon-to-be delicious cake. however, i took a gander at it and realized that the nutmeg was quite red. then i looked at the bottle and read: "cayenne pepper!!" which was then followed by a the question, "what the hell am i doing?!" needless to say, i frantically started to scrape the industrial quantity of cayenne pepper i had put in my cake. i had to throw away about a quarter of the batter. i put more sugar in case it was needed and more Cinnamon. it was baked a 350 degrees for an hour and when it came out, the outside looked like a normal-ish bundt cake but the inside was closer to a pumpkin pie consistency. quite funky yummy if i may add. you can't really taste the cayenne pepper except for a tiny spicy/hot bit on your palate as an aftertaste. besides that, it's quite edible. when my roommate walked in she immediately asked if she could have a piece because i looked pretty good. i warned her first about my little mishap but she gulp it down nonetheless. i am going to claim that as a success for now.
